General Linux stuff
Gaming setup
- Always install Codecs and Steam through distro setup tool
- Some distros install NVidia drivers OOTB, others let's you do it in a greetings app
- Run Steam straight after installing distro
- Run ProtonPlus and add Proton-GE Latest, close ProtonPlus
- Restart Steam
- Open Steam Settings
- Interface: Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views
- Downloads: Check everything in Shader Pre-Caching preferably. Updates to installed games: Only update at game launch.
- Compatibility: Use Proton-GE Latest as default. This is important!
Good applications
- Joplin for notetaking, like OneNote
- Beeper for unified chat, with WhatsUp and Signal
- Thunderbird for mail if using apple. Could use a WebApp instead.
- AdwSteamGtk gives Steam a Linux skin and it's quite nice
- Discord of course. There are 3rd party Discord clients, but it's against their EULA
Setting up mail
Written with Apple in mind, which is more fiddly than most.
- Use Thunderbird
- Create App specific passwords
- Use the normal setup, TB will pick up most settings.
- After hitting Done, you will need to configure manually to change the Usernam
- Username is full e-mail address in all fields
- If you hate tabs like me: Use add-on “No tabs”

- Username is e-mail and location is
icloud.com
Setting up contacts
